What's It Like Living in Powell and Liberty Township? A Look at Delaware County's Southern Edge

by Norby Fischer

Powell sits just north of the Franklin County line, and along with surrounding Liberty Township it forms one of Central Ohio's most sought-after residential corridors. Here's the honest picture.

Historic downtown Powell is compact and genuinely charming — local restaurants, a few shops, and community events centered around the four corners. It's small, and that's the appeal: it feels like a village center rather than a strip.

Housing: This is largely a move-up and upper-tier market. Expect established neighborhoods from the 1990s and 2000s with mature landscaping, plus newer construction continuing north and west. Lot sizes tend to run generous compared to closer-in suburbs, and you'll find golf course communities, wooded lots, and larger homes throughout. Entry-level inventory is limited.

The Olentangy corridor: Much of the area feeds into the Olentangy school district, and that — combined with the location — drives consistent demand. I'll always tell buyers to research districts themselves through the Ohio Department of Education and by visiting; I don't rate schools, and by law I can't steer.

Outdoors: The Scioto River corridor, Highbanks Metro Park just east, and a strong local park system give the area real green space. The Columbus Zoo and Zoombezi Bay are right there too.

Getting around: US-23 is the main artery, with I-270 access south. Commutes downtown are reasonable; peak-hour 23 traffic is the thing locals grumble about.

Trade-offs: Price per square foot runs above the metro average, and demand for well-priced homes is persistent.

Curious how Powell compares to Lewis Center, Dublin, or Delaware for your budget? That's a conversation I have weekly — message me and let's break it down.
