What's It Like Living in Grove City, Ohio? The Southwest Side's Best-Kept Non-Secret

by Norby Fischer

Grove City, on the southwest side of the Columbus metro, has quietly become one of the most compelling value stories in Central Ohio — and the people who live there would prefer you keep that quiet. Sorry, neighbors.

The Town Center: Grove City's historic downtown has real charm — local restaurants, shops, a library anchoring the district, and year-round community events. It gives the city a genuine center of gravity that many similarly sized suburbs lack.

Housing: This is where Grove City shines. You'll find a broad range: established post-war neighborhoods, 90s and 2000s subdivisions, and active new construction on the growing edges. Price points generally run more accessible than comparable homes on the north side of the metro — which is why first-time buyers and value-focused move-up buyers should have Grove City on their radar.

Growth and development: The Beulah Park area — the former horse racing track — has been transformed into a large mixed-use development, bringing new housing, green space, and momentum to the heart of the city.

Outdoors: Scioto Grove Metro Park on the southern edge offers river access, trails, and even backpacking sites, and the broader Metro Parks system is easily reachable.

Getting around: I-71 and I-270 access makes downtown Columbus a reasonable commute, and Rickenbacker-area logistics employment is close by.

Trade-offs: The southwest side has fewer big-box retail and dining options than Polaris or Easton orbit communities — though that gap keeps closing as the area grows.

If your budget is fighting you on the north side of 270, do yourself a favor and spend a Saturday in Grove City.
